WHAT IS RADIO FREQUENCY

Understanding Radio Frequency (RF for short)

When you first power on your receiver or transceiver you will be on what we call a frequency. The frequency you will be on is dependent of the receiver's or transceiver's operational frequency range.  

  • Frequency is defined as an electromagnetic pulse of radiation or energy that oscillates in a repeatable pattern in one second of time.  
  • The oscillation is measured in Hertz or Hz for short.   Frequency is based on the metric system.  As the frequency grows in size, the name will change.   
  • The K in KHz or Kilohertz stands for Kilo or an equivalent of 1,000Hz.  
  • The M in MHz or Megahertz stands for Mega or an equivalent of 1,000,000Hz.  
  • The G in GHz or Gigahertz stands for Giga or an equivalent of 1,000,000,000Hz.
